“I first saw Phil in January 2017 for Acupuncture, it was the first time I had tried it and was really happy with the results.
Phil also introduced me to Chinese herbs to treat a number of things but mainly a condition I have had for about 6 years. Since starting taking the medicine I have only had one recurrence of the condition and that was when I forgot to take it.
I had seen numerous doctors and taken a lot of antibiotics and nothing worked apart from the combination of Acupuncture and medicine expertly prescribed by Phil. I wish I had tried it sooner and highly recommend having a chat with Phil about any health concerns / issues.”

about chinese herbal medicine

Similarly to acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine has a long and rich history of practice, dating back over 2000 years.  In that time physicians have observed the effects of certain herbs in various dosages and preparations. This led to the development of classical formulae, combining different herbs to enhance and regulate their therapeutic effects. Rather than being a static practice, herbal practitioners have continued to research the medicinal effects of herbs as they formed the primary component of health care in China.

Chinese herbal medicine continues to evolve as a practice with ongoing research that uses modern scientific techniques to explore the mechanisms and effectiveness of the herbs.  This has lead to the first NHS trial of Chinese Herbal Medicine in the treatment of recurrent urinary tract infections in conjunction with the University of Southampton.

treatment process

In current Chinese Herbal Medicine practice we carry out a comprehensive consultation where we discuss the specifics of your primary complaints alongside subtleties of your general health. We then diagnose your patterns of health and form a treatment plan. From this a bespoke herbal formula is created and adapted to suit your individual constitution.  We then expect to see changes to your health either your primary complaints or general health which indicates the treatment is taking effect. Adaptations are then made to support this progress as your health improves.

ethical considerations

China has a history of using animal products within its medicine, including some which are now endangered or extinct.  These endangered animal parts are no longer used.  Practice in the UK allows only plant-based medicines to be used meaning that all of the Chinese herbs used are suitable for vegetarians and formulas can be adapted to suit a vegan lifestyle. Herbs used come from approved suppliers and are subject to regular testing for quality, pesticides and heavy metals.
